The African American Civil War Memorial Museum (AACWM) welcomes the Descendants of USCT soldiers. Here you can learn about the heroism of your ancestors who helped end slavery and keep America united under one flag.
Using the below resources, you can locate a soldier, register with the Museum, and share your family’s story as part of the Descendants Oral History Project. As a Descendant, you have a unique personal connection to these brave individuals and their contributions to forming the Nation. We hope that you will join us in sharing their stories. Together, we can transform how others understand and view this pivotal part of American history.
The National Park Service Soldiers and Sailors Database can help you to locate USCT soldiers and sailors who served in the Civil War, and who are memorialized on the AACWM Memorial.
Share your ancestor’s story through the Descendants Oral History Project and by registering with the AACWM. You can also view Descendant stories on our YouTube Channel.

Learn about the United States Colored Troops and their pivotal role in Civil War and American history.
Visit the museum which is open daily. Participate in annual commemorations and learn how to take, or request a certificate of one of the over 200,000 soldiers memorialized on the monument.
