Civil War Descendants Program

Explore Your Connection to the United States Colored Troops (USCT)

The African American Civil War Memorial Museum (AACWM) welcomes the Descendants of USCT soldiers. Here you can learn about the heroism of your ancestors who helped end slavery and keep America united under one flag.

Using the below resources, you can locate a soldier, register with the Museum, and share your family’s story as part of the Descendants Oral History Project. As a Descendant, you have a unique personal connection to these brave individuals and their contributions to forming the Nation. We hope that you will join us in sharing their stories. Together, we can transform how others understand and view this pivotal part of American history.
