Support the African American Civil War Memorial Museum’s Grand Reopening
The African American Civil War Memorial Museum is thrilled to announce its Grand Reopening on November 11, 2025. To commemorate this momentous occasion, we have commissioned a powerful new artwork titled Bloom by artist and illustrator Ismani Sun.
In this surreal composition, African American Civil War soldiers engage in battle amidst looming cotton plants, symbolizing the oppression and struggle they faced. Yet, a child picking the fruits of freedom represents the hope for a future beyond the shadows of the past.

“When people purchase their Bloom print, they’re not just acquiring a beautiful work of art—they’re helping to preserve a vital part of American history,” said Audrey Hinton, Chair of the Board of Directors. “It’s an investment in truth, in legacy, and in a future where these stories are never forgotten.”
