The African American Civil War Museum is in the final stages of its long-awaited renovation, which will conclude in November 2025.
This transformation will expand exhibit space, introduce state-of-the-art interactive displays, improve accessibility, and enhance visitor amenities—creating a richer and more engaging experience for all who come to learn about the United States Colored Troops (USCT) and the journey from the Civil War to Civil Rights. The upgraded space will allow us to tell these stories with greater depth, impact, and connection to the struggles for freedom and equality that continue to shape our nation.
We are excited to announce that the Reading of the Names ceremony will be part of our Grand Opening Celebration on November 11, 2025. This moving tradition honors the 209,145 USCT soldiers whose names are inscribed on the Wall of Honor. Speaking their names aloud affirms their sacrifice, preserves their memory, and connects their legacy to the ongoing pursuit of justice and equality.
We look forward to welcoming the community back into the revitalized museum this November, where the past will be remembered, the present engaged, and the future inspired.
